Zyban (bupropion) is an antidepressant medicine that has been found to aid in the stopping of smoking. It is used to help people stop smoking by reducing cravings and other withdrawal effects. Other brands of bupropion (Aplenzin, Budeprion, Forfivo XL, Wellbutrin) are used to treat major depressive disorder or seasonal affective disorder.

Information about Zyban:

This medicine is helps people who are dependent on nicotine to give up smoking. It is used in combination with motivational support. It is not a form of nicotine replacement therapy. It takes a few days to work so it is usually started while you are still smoking.

You should not take this medicine if you have seizures, an eating disorder, or if you have suddenly stopped using alcohol, seizure medication, or sedatives. If you take bupropion for depression, do not also take Zyban to quit smoking.

How should I take Zyban?

Take Zyban exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Too much of this medicine can increase your risk of a seizure.
