Anxiety disorder is a mental phenomenon, a disorder of the nervous system in which a person fears things which are illogical or unrealistic. A fear of one’s own unexplained physical symptoms is also a symptom of panic disorder. In many cases it’s just a response that is triggered when we perceive some uncertain future events or fear an incoming threat. It is an awkward mental state in which one can feel strange and confused and it can lead to reduced self-confidence, loss of appetite, sweating, loss of sleep, mental unrest, and headache, affecting normal day-to-day activities and functioning of an individual. Anxiety Disorders affect about 40 million American adults age 18 years and older.

Anxiety can affect any age group and the effects are varied –

Anxiety affects many a people at a very young age, but there is no certain time and age at which one may develop an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders commonly occur along with other mental or physical illnesses, including alcohol or substance abuse, which may mask anxiety symptoms or make them worse. Anxiety levels can vary from normal to severe and so can the effects of the disorder. In many a cases it turns out to be a blessing in disguise as a person is better prepared to face the upcoming challenge and the anxiety is reduced to a false alarm.
