Anxiety Disorders: The Go-To Guide for Clients and Therapists (Go-To Guides for Mental Health)

A comprehensive and accessible book on anxiety for clients and therapists alike.

Anxiety disorders are the number-one psychiatric problem in the United States, yet many clients who suffer from anxiety do not get effective counseling, and they often end therapy without successful amelioration of their symptoms. Carolyn Daitch, a seasoned therapist and award-winning author, has found that clients bene?t most when they are active participants in their therapy, and should be knowledgeable about anxiety disorders to facilitate this process. For the bene?t of both therapists and clients, she covers the ins and outs of the anxiety disorders—Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Speci?c Phobias, Social Anxiety Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder—and offers numerous case examples of those who have sought treatment for these disorders and learned to manage them. For each type of anxiety disorder, she details speci?c treatment options and techniques, explaining which are best suited to individual use, and which are better done in collaboration with a therapist. Engaging, comprehensive, and reassuring, this is an essential Go-To Guide.

Carolyn Daitch assumed a major undertaking in targeting this book both for lay readers and for clinicians. As a clinician, my initial reaction to the book was that it was a bit basic for trained professionals. Yet, in the weeks after reading the book, I have found that I have drawn upon it more than I would have expected.

For a beginning therapist, I believe this book offers a good transition from the classroom to clinical practice. It can fill in “holes” from training programs and lead the therapist to explore further techniques and approaches not learned previously. For the more experienced therapist, this book provides a means for “dustng off some of the cobwebs” on diagnostic and treatment issues that s/he might not have considered for some time. In day-to-day practice, it is difficult not to get into a rut of doing the same thing that has become routine for the therapist with every patient, rather than considering other approaches learned but not applied during training.

I have not used this book with clients yet, so I’m not sure what the response will be. My intuition tells me that it will be well received. I may write a further review once I have!

I commend Dr. Daitch for her clear, engaging, and concise writing style. She has a real talent for integrating professional terminology and plain English. The text has a solid academic feel, yet is never “ivory tower.” There is a personable, non-stigmatizing tone. Not easy to accomplish, at all!

Having read the book from cover to cover I found it to be an excellent guide for anyone experiencing anxiety or panic disorder as well as those with OCD. It is informative, encouraging and engaging, written in a creative way that keeps your attention. It is easy to read with great tools, techniques and wisdom.
As a client of Dr Daitch I am privileged to have hands on experience with a lot of the techniques mentioned in her book. In her kind, tender voice and empathetic heart she is a living example of everything presented in her book. A must read book for everyone, professional and laymen because no one knows when they may need to call on her expert techniques.

Dr. Carolyn Daitch has written a masterful review of the range of issues involved with anxiety disorders and the current best treatments of these disorders. What is so striking about Dr. Daitch’s book is her coverage of both the range of anxiety disorders and her comprehensive review of the best therapeutic treatments for these disabling disorders. Dr Daitch writes in a user-friendly style, whether you are a therapist or a sufferer of anxiety disorders. Her tone is both conversational and informative and elucidates the myriad number of treatments currently available for anxiety disorders. I would highly recommend this book for either therapists or sufferers of anxiety disorders,
