Hey Everyone, I take 2mg of Ativan a day. 1 mg in the morning and 1 mg at night before bed. I have been diagnosed with Severe Panic Attack and Depression. Lorazepam (Generic brand for Ativan) does help me. Understand that the effects for any medication is going to vary person to person. I don't get sleepy in the morning when I take it, but it does help me get a good night's sleep at night when I'm tired. Also, I do want to say: Recently, my pharmacy didn't give me the exact amount of pills of Ativan, so I have been off of it "cold turkey" because I ran out and the withdrawal symptoms can be a hellish. Easy to use and effective, but perhaps TOO effective. I took one pill following complications of surgery and didn't wake up for over 24 hours. I was told that the whole time I was passed out, I was hallucinating and scratching the roof of my mouth. Very scary! I've never taken it since. I lost an entire day and don't remember anything which is terrifying. Obviously not the right medication for me. I have since switched to a combination of Zoloft/Klonopin and my anxiety is almost non-existent.
i hae a very bad case of irritabiity (not really anxious), my husband drives me insane and i get edgy and mean and feel sick to my stomach. i have trid valium but it gives me a "hangover" feelin in the morning. Klonopin an Xanax make me"black out". Ativan is the only thing that really calms me downand i feel great!!!!
I have been using Lorazepam for 20 years. I am a senior who takes no other medications. Or, should I say, due to an inept cretin of a primary care Dr., I have to take the horrid Sertraline 50mg. Since I was perfectly fine with my Ativan for many years, this inept Dr of mine insisted on weaning me off with Sertraline . I have none of the conditions Sertraline is prescribed for, yet the Dr. and many other doctors freak out over Ativan use. Never mind the myriad adverse side effects anti-depressants like Zoloft or Paxil cause. Lazy uninformed doctors will prescribe these horrendous drugs before Ativan. Ativan has been excellent for me personally. Helps me sleep, mellows me out, NO adverse side effects at all. A great drug. Since Medicare providers hassle you to death with finding a limited supply of primary doctors (usually the dregs of the doctors pool), I have to find a doctor who has an understanding and acceptance of Ativan. That is a difficult, arduous task in itself. But, Medicare providers is a topic for another discussion altogether.
