i have been on Ativan for 9 years now, to help control my anxiety/panic disorder. I have tried other medications, and were allergic to most, so this works best for me. The worst fear i have ,is that i am afraid my doctor will try to take me off this medicine. Seems they always want me to try something else. I am comfortable with the Ativan. If I have to take it the rest of my life, I will feel safe ntaking this medicine, because no other has helped me. I can function properly everyday,and I know Ativan has been around for many years. I trust Ativan, and my worst fear is not being able to have doctor prescribe it for me,for I know I will have serious withdrawls.I thank God for Ativan, and the therapy that is out there to help me live my life normally.
I have used every benzo out there and I find that Ativan works much slower. This is a med you have to use daily not as a prn. Xanax is better for prn use since it hits harder than Ativan. Ativan does work with my extreme anxiety, but not so much with my panic attacks. Xanax works better for that. I haven't experience any complications and i've been on it (1mg ativan) for 3 months now :]

I was taken to the emergency room by ambulance. Now, I am back on xanax along with zoloft and also seeing a wonderful LCSW and I am blessed to be 100% better.
I had been on ativan for only a month and I tried to stop cold turkey. for 4 days I was absolutely miserable - experiencing most of the withdrawal side effects. I restarted the ativan to stop the side effects. Also, if I only take one mg. at bedtime to help me sleep - I have withdrawal reactions the very next afternoon - especially terrible needles and pins in arms and legs. I have near taken a drug in which you begin withdrawal reactions within a 24 hour period - how strong and such a short lifespan for a drug.
