    My provider wanted to start me on something low & move up in dose if needed. She said 0.5-1mg to start with. But, that didn't do anything for me. So I took 2mg total, which did make me sleepy and make me feel calm. It took 60 minutes for any of this to kick in. My main displeasure of this drug is that it makes me very groggy the next day; so hard to get out of bed and keep my eyes open. I don't get my normal energy back until noon!

    I suffer from anxiety and was given Ativan "as needed". I didn't take it every day and thought I was doing ok. One day at work I became very angry and thought I should try taking it daily instead of as needed. Boy, was it a life saver. My doctor agrees. I take 1 mg twice daily and I feel normal for the first time in my life. I can go outside, get on a bus, shop, etc. and not have to think about it for a while first. I just jump in the car (or bus) and go. It's wonderful having such a "normal" life. Before, other drugs like Paxil or Zoloft made things worse for me. I felt suicidal at times so I stopped them.

    I'm 19 and this anxiety and OCD had been poured on me out of no where. It scared me so bad I felt like I couldn't live my life. I went to the ER and they prescribed me Ativan 1 mg 3 times a day. It was extremely effective. The first week I was only taking half or sometimes 2. I've been on it for 3 weeks and am waiting to get on a SSRIs for more long term.
