I was prescribed this drug, to help control my panic attacks, and help to 'calm' my mood. Overall, I feel this drug did what it was prescribed for.
I've used this med for years with virtually no side effects, but I do not take it for anxiety. Because it has a muscle relaxant & muscle relaxant, I use it for chronic pelvic pain. I also use a low dosage, approx. 1/2 mg day as not to build up a tolerance to this drug, which is common with benzos. Have tried tricyclics anti depressants to treat pain as well as other popular pain meds with terrible side effects. Now my Doc is taking me off Lorazapam. Seems the Feds are putting pressure on insurance providers & docs are being advised not to prescribe these. A very bad policy for people have never abused this drug and have benefited so many.
I had a SEVERE panic/depression episode and was contemplating suicide (didn't tell Dr. about that part though) with uncontrollable crying "spells" and was prescribed 2mg Ativan and it was effective within just a few minutes. I calmed down and the racing thoughts, thoughts of suicide, and other feelings went on hold long enough to compose myself. I was on these for a few weeks and it saved my life. I was already on 2mg Xanax ER at the time but it didn't touch the episode I was having at the current time. However, the Xanax ER was very effective for what it was for, I just had an episode triggered by a bad event that override the power of the Xanax at the time.
