I get panic attacks triggered by performance anxiety. I developed this my sophomore year in high school. Just a few months ago I was having panic attacks about my upcoming wedding and everyone watching me while I say my vows. I was scared I would be shaking so bad that I wouldn't be able to put my husband's ring on his finger! I took 1.5 mg of Ativan and everything went perfect. Normally I am unable to speak, choke up, feel like running out of the room, or like I'm going to pee my pants! I was so worried about not being able to say my vows, but this drug worked amazingly well! I have tried Xanax, clonipin, paxil, and welbutrin but they didn't help. Xanax just made me tired, but still anxious. The others did nothing.

the only issue Ive had is that after approximately 2 to 3 years Ive had to increase my dosage to 4mg daily to maintain same benefit and even have troubble when having a particularly bad day not increasing to 5 or 6 mg daily. The biggest issue is running out of my rx early. Have had to go 4 days without and 2 days without which made me extremely uncomfortable, unable to sleep, massive panic attacks and anxiety and little or no short term memory. Scary, scary, scary to go through sudden withdrawal, enough that I would consider suicide if happens again.

Female, 21. Developed a panic disorder and hypochondria at 16. I did CBT therapy for a long time which helped immensely. I would go to the ER and Dr constantly. I would have a hard time falling asleep because I would panic I would die. I have been on this for 6 years, 0.5mg-1mg as needed. I only took it when in the throws of panic during a time when I did not know how to cope. It has done absolute wonders for me. I take 0.5mg only a few times a year now just when my GAD gets to be too much or anxiety disrupts my sleep for more than a few days. It's wonderful in small doses, as needed, and combined with CBT. I have had no side effects or withdrawal except if you take it when you aren't panicking and on occasion it can make you quite sleepy.

When I feel a Panic attack coming on I just take one and within 15 min I feel fine. Doesn't make you loopy like some drugs. I take only 2 a day.

I have been taking Ativan for the past 28 years! Initially it was 0.5mg 2/3 times a day for a few months. Later 0.5mg twice a day for about 2/3 years. Then once a day for 5/6 years. Since then I regularly take 0.75mg once a day in the morning during all these years. I have never exceeded the dosage and I am able to skip the tablet on many Sundays when I don't need to go out or do stressful things. I am sure I will be able to stop taking the medicine when I want but as the dosage is small I have made it a habit to pop 3/4th of 1mg pill daily before I start to office. Side effects - I am unable to distinguish as I am 61 yrs now and have formed some forgetfulness and some usual age related minor personal problems. Ativan is a great medicine!
