Sylvester Stallone Shared a Rocky III Photo That Shows How Much Bigger Hulk Hogan Really Was

By | October 4, 2021

Your average 75-year-old man might not be the most fluent when it comes to social media, but Sylvester Stallone isn’t exactly average. Whether he’s posting gym videos from his workouts with trainer Gunnar Peterson, selling merch inspired by his most iconic roles, or providing meme fodder with his performance as King Shark in The Suicide Squad, the action movie star is pretty great at the internet.

On top of promoting his new work and sharing training clips, Stallone will also frequently share little-known facts and behind-the-scenes insights from some of his best-loved movies. In a recent Instagram post, he did just that, posting a photo of himself and wrestling legend Hulk Hogan from the set of Rocky III.

The third Rocky movie, written and directed by Stallone, saw the actor and wrestler face off against each other in the context of a charity exhibition match, with the relatively diminutive Rocky Balboa dwarfed by Hogan’s character “Thunderlips” in his big screen debut.

And while the two are very different sizes in real life—Stallone is 5’8″, while Hogan stands at 6’6″—that disparity is even more exaggerated in the movie, as this new photo illustrates. It shows that while filming their fight scene, Hogan was actually stood on a raised platform to make him appear even taller.

“Might as well let another secret out of the bag before the release of Rocky IV,” Stallone wrote, referring to the director’s cut of that film, which is due to have a limited theatrical release in November.

This isn’t the first time Stallone has reflected on his experience working with Hogan; earlier this year, he posted a photo of himself lifting the 310-pound wrestler while shooting the movie, and praised him as a “great athlete,” saying he “threw the straightest punches I’ve ever encountered.”
