I recently had to start flying again after 10 plus years, due to my job. My doctor prescribed Ativan, and although a little skeptical, I can say with 100% conviction, that this helped me alot. I was completely awake and conscious for the duration of a recent 4 hour flight, however I was quite calm and felt like I was in my comfort zone, a "business as usual" type feeling. The drug did make me a bit drowsy as it began to wear off, after about 4 hours. The drug took about 10 minutes to start taking effect.
Absolutely none. My original dr. prescribed me Xanax, which, for me, is a life-saver. New dr. wouldn't put me on it, so I got Klonopin instead,(1mg, 3x's/day). After Klonopin made me sleepy, I asked for the only other bz he was willing to prescribe,(Ativan),and w/in one week was going through massive w/drawals from the lack of potency of the drug. So, back on Klonopin and the problems went away like that. May as well have been a sugar pill. Needless to say, I found a dr. to prescribe Xanax, and have had no problems since.
I'm on 0.5mg 3 times a day. I feel great. I'm happy, calm, and back to my old self again, without anxiety flare ups. I love this medicine, and would recommend it to anyone. Personally I think this is the best benzodiazepine, take it with caution though, but if you truly need it like I do, then find a doctor willing to prescribe it. Good luck.
