I have been taking Ativan for 20 years. It was prescribed for me when my husband was in hospice care and I was struggling to care for him and our young daughters. Ativan is not habit forming for someone who doesn't have an addictive personality. I have been on and off Ativan for a few years and have never suffered any kind of withdrawal symptom or felt I "needed" the medication.
I take 0.5 and my doctor told me to cut the pill in half because I have a new born baby and take a whole one at night to help me sleep. The halves have been working great it relaxes me to the point if I want to go to sleep I can. I have generalized anxiety disorder and post traumatic stress disorder. I'm always worrying about me dying or my health or thinking something is wrong with me or death is coming. My mind would race bad. I also take Prozac thats a good pill. I also feel lightheaded feeling of passing out but when I take Ativan it stops me from thinking about the things that make me anxious.

I took this med for 15 years 1 mil gram each day. after retiring, i started breaking my tablet in 4 pieces for about a month and came off the meds completely for a year. i had to start taking again about a month ago and this week i have start to break in 4's again, taking only when neede and it is working fine. this helps me not to become addicted. It is a very good drug and should be used wisley.
I HAVE BEEN TAKING ATIVAN FOR 12 YRS MY Dr has taken me off this medication and Has prescribed me on zoloft and busbar.So far it's not helping my stress and axiety level are worse now then they ever have.I have talked with my theropist about major sleep disorder since she took me off of ativan and she put me on trazadone for the past 2 weeks i'm sleeping about 3-4 hrs a day.The trazadone is not working i'm going from 100mg to 200mg on 3/09/2010 before bedtime i sure hope this works.
