I use .5 mg of Ativan to manage occasional panic attacks. It is very effective in reducing the severity of the panic, and it works about 20 minutes after taking it. Even with the small dose, however, I experience heaviness in the chest and a feeling like it is hard to breathe. This adds to my panic somewhat, but then eventually I feel relaxed enough not to worry about it too much. I would only use this drug on occasion because of its addictive tendencies. If I used it every day I would probably need a higher dose to get the same effectiveness.

It doesn't make you feel drunk or high, but more just kind of relaxed and mellow (a bit sleepy). I took a very low dose, as needed, and it's just nice to have something in case I need it, that wasn't real addictive or habit forming. Like having a spare tire. You don't have to use it very often, but it's comforting knowing you have one, and it will get you through. I didn't notice any side effects at all to be honest, except for feeling sleepy when I took it sometimes, but that's not always a bad thing.
given this medication for extreme anxiety. i use when needed 2 mg. about 4 times a week. helps instantly. i would not recommend driving a car on it though, overall on it 2 years no and no complaints.
