I am a nervous flyer and my anxiety has been getting particularly bad, so I decided to go to my family doc and get a prescription. My doc gave me ativan and said to take 1 mg 1 hour before the flight. I have an intense fear of going to the dentist, so they prescribed Ativan to me... It... Didn't do a single thing. I dissolved it under my tongue, as instructed by the pharmacist note. Half an hour later, nothing. Hour later, nothing. Even now, 8.5 hours after taking it... nothing. It didn't work on me. I was quite upset. The only thing it did was make my cheeks feel slightly poofier than usual. And maybe dizzy once while walking down some stairs a few hours ago.
I was originally prescribed Ativan to help combat my occasional anxiety attacks, but I also use it to combat insomnia. It works well for me and I've never experienced any negative side effects. I'm prescribed 1 mg tablets, but I usually halve them and take .5 mg dosages. I haven't ever experienced negative side effects from taking it (with the exception of drowsiness---but that's what I want it to do anyway). As an added bonus, it's a fast-acting and perfect remedy for a bad hangover.
